What is shared ownership?
 
Also known as 'part buy / part rent', this government initiative helps first time buyers to get a foot on the property ladder.  It's simple, you purchase a percentage of a new home (as much as you can afford) and pay a subsidised rent on the share you don't own.  At a later stage, if you wish, you can purchase further shares in your home until you own it 100% outright.
