Skills Academy

What is the Stanhope Skills Academy?

The Stanhope Skills Academy is a site-based construction training programme developed by Denne Construction, a main contractor for the redevelopment of Stanhope. The project is part of the National Skills Academy network, which aims to raise the standard of industry training, improve productivity and combat construction skills shortages across the UK.

The Stanhope Skills Academy covers:

  • School engagement, curriculum development and teacher professional development
  • Work experience placements under the new Young Apprenticeship scheme and the Construction GCSE
  • Traditional and programme led apprenticeships
  • On-Site Assessment for the qualified Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)
  • Local employment
  • Higher education engagement and research
  • Business support
  • Support for Basic Skills and English Spoken as an Other Language (ESOL)

What can it do for me?

The Skills Academy is controlled by a major construction employer, so you will benefit from programmes and qualifications that are tailor-made for your industry.

The Stanhope Skills Academy can provide:

  • Training in the skills your business needs
  • A wider selection of higher-quality recruits and a better skilled workforce
  • First-class teaching in a modern learning environment
  • Centres of innovation and creativity, developing and reshaping training programmes
  • Flexible methods of delivery, based on close relationships with employers of all sizes

Who is the training for?

The Skills Academy can provide skills training for:

Existing employees from entry level to senior management, to ensure today's workforce keeps apace with the demands of the industry and global economy.

Potential recruits such as school leavers, graduates and other new entrants to the work force, giving them the skills they need to gain employment and succeed in their careers.

National Skills Academies also want to reach groups such as older workers, who currently face obstacles in accessing skills training - helping to ensure that our workforce truly reflects the talent and diversity of our population as a whole.

How do I get involved?

Through our National Skills Academy at Stanhope, we host a number of Industry Interaction days where you can learn more about the skills centre.
